Von der Leyen asserts that the EU is "staying the course" set by the Paris Agreement

"We will do our part to make this COP a success, close gaps, strengthen our partners and deliver 'real progress,'" he added during his three-minute speech.
Earlier, the President of the European Council, António Costa, warned that "the window of opportunity to react and avoid the collapse" of the planet "is closing rapidly."
He defended the "difficult" path traveled since the first COP, three decades ago, and said that the EU maintains its "full conviction" in the Paris Agreement. "Without multilateralism, there is no decisive climate action," he asserted.
Nearly 60 heads of state and government are meeting between Thursday and Friday at the COP30 leaders' meeting. Among the leaders who have already participated are Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Brazil), Gabriel Boric (Chile), Gustavo Petro (Colombia), Emmanuel Macron (France), and Keir Starmer (United Kingdom), among others.
